Waiting for regrowth after treatments

Hair, lashes, brows, nails: what consumer reviews say about the wait, the first signs and the care products that support regrowth.

“Long live the revitalizing serum! My brows are growing back at lightning speed. What joy after all these months without eyebrows.”

— Review of MÊME Lash & Brow Serum, 5/5 (translated from French)

First comes the loss. Then comes another time, longer and quieter: the time of regrowth. Weeks, sometimes months, spent watching for fuzz on the scalp, a lash coming back, a nail that no longer splits.

During this period, care products take on a different role. People no longer ask them only to beautify, but to support what is coming back, protect what is still fragile and, little by little, restore familiar gestures.

In the Sensia space dedicated to dermocosmetics and oncology, nearly 20,000 reviews cover these products: hair care, lash and brow serums, nail treatments and polishes. We read them to understand what people go through during this time of regrowth, and what they expect from the products that accompany it.

Watching for the first signs

In most categories, a review judges a product on an immediate impression: a texture, a scent, a feeling of comfort. Here, reviews are dated from the inside. People count the days, the weeks, the treatment cycles.

“After losing my lashes and brows following chemo, I wanted a product that would help them grow. I'm absolutely delighted! After one month of daily application, what a surprise! Thank you!”

— Review of Typology Lash & Brow Densifying Serum, 5/5 (translated from French)

The signs people watch for are always very concrete:

  • less hair in the brush, on the pillow or at the bottom of the shower;
  • a “little fuzz” on the scalp or at the temples;
  • lashes getting their length back, brows “filling in”;
  • nails that no longer split, break less, grow back.

And each step is told as a victory. The fuzz becomes hair, the hair regains body.

“I had breast cancer and, with chemo, I lost all my hair. Since I've been using this product, what was at first just fuzz is becoming quality hair, strong and well cared for. I highly recommend it!”

— Review of Klorane Quinine & Edelweiss Anti-Hair Loss Serum, 5/5 (translated from Spanish)

For nails too, people wait for regrowth before passing judgment.

“Having recently been on chemotherapy, I'm treating my nails and waiting for them to grow out to judge the full effectiveness. Already, they hardly break or split anymore.”

— Review of Poderm Silicium Serum for Weakened Nails, 5/5 (translated from French)

Protecting what comes back

What grows back is fragile. Hair comes back fine, the scalp itches, nails stay soft or darkened. Before hoping for results, people look for products that don't rush anything.

For hair, the vocabulary changes with the moment. To slow hair loss, people talk about strength and density. To support regrowth after treatment, they talk about gentleness, fuzz and itching.

“Very gentle and soothing for the little fuzz that reappears after losing my hair to chemotherapy, and for a scalp that was prone to some itching.”

— Review of MÊME Care Shampoo, 5/5 (translated from French)

“Very good product, it strengthens my poor hair! It gives my hair a little more vitality (I'm on chemotherapy).”

— Review of Klorane Quinine & Edelweiss Anti-Hair Loss Serum, 4/5 (translated from French)

“After 12 chemotherapy sessions, a fellow patient recommended this product to me. I bought all 4 products. I'm very happy to have a decent hairstyle again. My hairdresser was amazed by the result.”

— Review of Klorane Quinine & Edelweiss Anti-Hair Loss Serum, 5/5 (translated from French)

Nails, often overlooked in supportive care, are described with great precision: they break, split, darken, lift. The strongest reviews tell a rescue story.

“Because of chemotherapy, my nails had become very fragile, dull and brittle. They even tended to split. Thanks to this product, my nails are strong again and no longer break. And the color is very pretty! Recommended.”

— Review of La Roche-Posay Silicium Nail Polish, 5/5 (translated from French)

Nail polish, for its part, becomes armor.

“Perfect. Lovely color. Good hold and good protection for nails damaged by chemo.”

— Review of La Roche-Posay Silicium Nail Polish, 5/5 (translated from French)

Doubting: when regrowth takes its time

The time of regrowth is also a time of impatience. Lash and brow serums gather both some of the most moving stories in the corpus and the most heartfelt disappointments, sometimes about the same product.

“I love this product. I tell myself it's thanks to it that my lashes and brows grew back so quickly. Thank you MÊME.”

— Review of MÊME Lash & Brow Serum, 5/5 (translated from French)

“I've been using the revitalizing lash and brow serum for almost two months now and the result is rather disappointing, very little regrowth of my brows, even though I apply the product every day… I hope to see results soon… It matters to me.”

— Review of MÊME Lash & Brow Serum, 3/5 (translated from French)

Reading the 405 reviews of this serum, differences in perception seem to depend as much on the situation of the people using it as on the product itself.

Timing. Enthusiastic reviews almost all describe the period after chemotherapy ends, when lashes and brows start growing back on their own: “results checked and much appreciated 2 months after the end of chemotherapy.” The serum accompanies regrowth that is already under way, and the review quoted above says so honestly: “I tell myself it's thanks to it.” The observation goes beyond this one serum:

“After my chemotherapy, when I had lost all my lashes, I ‘treated’ myself to this serum and I'm completely convinced. Of course they also grow back without a serum, but they are now thicker and longer than before, and it was also faster than for the other patients without a serum. Of course I can't say whether that's always the case, but I'm very happy it worked for me and that the investment was worth it.”

— Review of RevitaLash Advanced, 5/5 (translated from German)

Expectations. Disappointed reviewers often hope to go beyond what they had before treatment.

“My lashes grew back after chemo and are now quite ‘sparse,’ especially in length. I've been using the serum since February 7 exactly (so almost six weeks), morning and evening. I don't see any improvement in my lashes. Of course I'll finish the product, but unfortunately I'm not convinced it works. As for my brows, I haven't even tried, because they're blonde and very thin (before and after chemo): it would be a lost cause!”

— Review of MÊME Lash & Brow Serum, 3/5 (translated from French)

Hindsight. One review in five is neutral: many are written after a few days or weeks, before people are in a position to judge.

“I've only been using it for 3 weeks after many treatments for my cancer, so it's too early to give an opinion on the benefits. Fast shipping and easy application.”

— Review of Typology Lash & Brow Densifying Serum, 3/5 (translated from French)

The same product can therefore receive opposite reviews without any of them being wrong: they are not telling the same story. The pattern holds across all lash and brow serums, the products that draw the most contrasting perceptions. Complaints are similar from one brand to the next: nothing visible after one to three months, stinging eyes, a price judged high for the result. These are also the products people expect the most from: getting lashes and brows back means getting your own gaze back.

Filling in while waiting

While regrowth does its work, other gestures take over. They repair nothing, but they make the face and hands familiar again.

“I didn't lose all my brows, but they're sparse with targeted therapy. This pen lets me draw my brows properly and fill in the gaps. Natural result.”

— Review of MÊME Brow Pen, 5/5 (translated from French)

Nail polish plays the same role for the hands: it protects, and it brings color back to nails people sometimes hide.

“A polish I've been wearing since I started chemotherapy, to protect my nails from UV. Pretty summery color that lets you combine the useful with the pleasant.”

— Review of EyeCare Ultra Silicium-Urea Nail Polish, 5/5 (translated from French)

But not everyone is looking for color. For some, protecting their nails should above all stay discreet.

“My nails are very brittle after chemotherapy! The polish is quite effective but it's shiny! I'm a man and I would have preferred a matte, more ‘discreet’ polish.”

— Review of La Roche-Posay Silicium Nail Polish, 3/5 (translated from French)

“Good protection for nails damaged and split by chemo. Invisible because it's matte. Fast drying.”

— Review of La Roche-Posay Silicium Nail Polish, 5/5 (translated from French)

Everywhere, two gestures answer each other: a treatment that works over time and carries hope, and a product that helps right away and makes daily life simpler in the meantime.

Finding your face again

Once regrowth is there, reviews change tone. They no longer talk only about lashes or nails, but about morale, about life picking up again.

“This extraordinary product lets us watch our lashes grow back day after day after chemotherapy. Life gets back on track faster and it's good for morale.”

— Review of RevitaLash Advanced, 5/5 (translated from French)

RevitaLash's own story is tied to breast cancer: according to the brand, its founder created the serum for his wife during her treatment. The brand nevertheless advises against using it during chemotherapy. Reviews that mention the illness therefore almost all concern the period after treatment.

“I've been using this product since my chemotherapy. I had lost my eyebrows and lashes, and it clearly helped them grow back.”

— Review of Talika Eyebrow Lipocils Expert, 5/5

Nails follow the same path: once treatment is over, reviews describe nails regaining strength.

“After my chemotherapy, it's the only worthwhile polish I've used. Thanks to it, my nails break much less and are regaining strength. I've already recommended this product to a friend. A bit expensive though.”

— Review of EyeCare Ultra Silicium-Urea Nail Polish, 5/5 (translated from French)

Yet even in satisfied reviews, honesty prevails. Many report partial progress, without embellishing:

“I'm testing this treatment. Of course, my nails are still very damaged and black from the chemo, but I can feel a difference: they seem less fragile.”

— Review of MÊME Nail Strengthening Solution, 4/5 (translated from French)

“A difference,” “less fragile”: in this time of regrowth, a small step forward is sometimes enough to restore confidence.

One product per area, at least 100 reviews, ranked by Sensia Score. The ranking reflects perception expressed in reviews, not clinical efficacy. Consumer rating refers to the average star rating out of 5 displayed on retail websites and is distinct from the Sensia Score.

What these reviews reveal

  • Regrowth sets a different pace of evaluation. A product is not judged on a first impression, but over weeks of use. Reviews become logbooks, often written along the way.
  • Treating and filling in go hand in hand. The serum or strengthening solution carries hope; the brow pen or nail polish makes daily life simpler in the meantime.
  • The same product can disappoint and move. What changes is not the formula but the timing, the expectations and the patience of the person using it.
  • Ratings are good, texts more nuanced. Star ratings stay high, but the texts describe the damage before the progress: four stars for nails that are “very damaged and black” and only seem “less fragile.”
  • Brands don't all occupy the same ground. MÊME is present in every area and accounts for a large share of treatment-related testimonials; Klorane, RevitaLash, Talika and La Roche-Posay each lead in their own area.

Methodology

Corpus: consumer reviews from the Sensia space “Oncology Skincare — Europe & North America,” collected from Google Shopping, Sephora, Nocibé and Douglas. This article covers anti-hair loss and regrowth hair care, lash and brow serums, and nail treatments and polishes, nearly 20,000 reviews in total. Data as of October 1, 2026.

Sensia Score: a sentiment indicator calculated by Sensia's AI from the text of each review, distinct from the star rating left by the consumer.

Consolidation: when the same product appears on several listings, the figures shown are those of its main listing in Sensia, so that reviews syndicated from one listing to another are not counted twice. La Roche-Posay's Silicium nail polish, for example, appears on three listings (including the Toleriane Rose shade): only the main listing (472 reviews) is used. Exception: since no listing of Klorane's Croissance serum reaches 100 reviews, its two listings (93 and 53 reviews) are combined. The share of positive reviews is calculated on reviews with a known country.

Incentivized reviews: reviews collected in exchange for a product or an offer are identified by their explicit mentions. When a product has many of them, its score is also examined without them, and a listing made up almost entirely of incentivized reviews is excluded. This is the case for one Nocibé listing of Klorane's anti-hair loss serum. Klorane's Croissance serum has about 40% incentivized reviews; its score remains very high on the listing where they are rare. The anti-hair loss conditioner from the same range, which scored higher on paper, was not included for this reason.

Combined serums: lash and brow serums are ranked in the area where their reviews are most numerous and most satisfied.

Quotes: real, anonymous reviews, quoted in full, with minor spelling corrections; reviews in other languages are translated.

Limitations: not all reviews come from people undergoing treatment. The ranking describes a consumer experience, not proven efficacy.

Health disclaimer: these findings describe consumer experiences. They are not medical recommendations and do not replace advice from your care team. They do not guarantee any regrowth, and some products are not recommended by their manufacturer during chemotherapy. Before using a product during treatment, consult your doctor, oncologist or pharmacist.
